What are the perks of being a wallflower?
Some may never know. However, given the privilege to read this book (written by Stephen Chbosky), I have the opportunity of experiencing freshman year through the eyes of our protagonist and self-proclaimed wallflower, Charlie. Charlie is an interesting fellow who is sensitive and extremely quiet, but also dealing with dark troubles on the inside (such as the suicide of his best friend). Needless to say, Charlie has a hard time making new acquaintances – but then he meets Patrick. Patrick is a big, friendly guy in Charlie's shop class who becomes one of Charlie's closest friends (and my favorite character, at that). Patrick is extremely understanding of Charlie and always listens intently to what he has to say; he becomes something like his older brother. Because Patrick spends the time to learn who Charlie is on the inside and also takes it upon himself to guide Charlie through high school, I respect and admire him very much.
